ABOUT ME

Welcome to 6th grade math at Ser-Ninos Middle School. My name is Mrs. Ethridge and I am excited to be your teacher this year. This is my 20th year in education. I love math and I love to share my enthusiasm with my students. I believe that every child can learn and grow in their math abilities. I am looking forward to a terrific year.

Expectativas de comportamiento:

Siempre se espera que cada estudiante trate al maestro y a los demás estudiantes con respeto. El lenguaje ofensivo no es aceptable en esta clase. Se espera que los estudiantes estén en sus asientos y preparados para la clase tan pronto como entren.
Presta atención. No se permitirá hablar mientras el maestro está instruyendo o mientras otros estudiantes están hablando.

Syllabus - English

Course Description:

This math course is a continuation and the next building block after fifth-grade math. We will be reviewing operations with whole numbers and will be adding integers, decimals, percent, proportions, rates, equations and relationships, measurement and data, and personal financial literacy.

Course Expectations:

Students are expected to develop problem-solving skills and apply critical thinking skills to understanding the math concepts being studied. Students are also expected to come prepared and expected to complete assignments on time. Students are expected to keep their math notebooks up-to-date and complete, including getting missed notes when returning from an absence.

Textbooks and Materials:

You should already have purchased school supplies and have them ready and available. All math books are workbooks so students can write in them to complete their assignments. Each student will have a math journal where notes and other items will be kept. All math work will be done in pencil. Checking and corrections will be done in pen.

Grading Plan:

Grades are based on a weighted average. A student’s final average is computed by taking the total number of points received divided by the total number of possible points creating a percentage. The student must have a total average of 70% to pass.

Participation – 10%

Assessments - 50%

Behavioral Expectations:

Each student is always expected to treat the teacher and other students with respect. Offensive language is not acceptable in this class. Students are expected to be in their seats and prepared for class as soon as they enter.
Pay attention. Talking while the teacher is instructing or while other students are speaking will not be permitted. Listen the first-time directions are given.
Students will always stay in their seats unless otherwise directed by the teacher.
Students will come to class prepared with their agenda, paycheck, math journal, homework, pencil for working, and pen for checking and corrections.
If a student is late for class, the teacher reserves the right to have the time missed class time made up during ancillary, after school or during Saturday tutoring.
If a student is absent, it is the student’s responsibility to get all missed work from the teacher and return it in a timely manner.

Statement for Academic Dishonesty: Academic honesty is expected in this class. Cheating will not be tolerated. Consequences may include: reduction in grade in assignment, repeat assignment, no grade on assignment or others as deemed appropriate. Academic dishonesty will be reported, and parent will be notified.
